The Chemical Engineering Department was established in year 1996. The Department offers instructions at undergraduate level leading to 4 year B.Tech degree. The instructions at the undergraduate level aims in providing the students a broad-based education with emphasis on theory and practice of Chemical Engineering keeping in view of the current and future requirements of the country. Opportunities are provided to the students at all levels to get acquainted with the latest developments in the various areas of Chemical Engineering. The Department maintains close association with a large number of chemical industries and R&D organizations. Industry-oriented projects are undertaken regularly and department arranges for industrial visits, expert lectures and in-plant training. There are several well-equipped and spacious laboratories in the department. Qualified, experienced and enthusiastic faculty members are recruited as per AICTE norms. Adequate number of books and Journals are available in the library. Apart from textbooks and journals the department is equipped with Internet facility and centrally located “Encyclopedia of Chemical technology”, a basic requirement for literature survey. Encyclopedia consisting of latest volumes is very much helpful students as well as staff and other departments. The staff members are in association with Industry Institute Interaction Committee, placement and training activities and ISTE activities in the institute addition to the academic activities, the department is also maintaining the water purification plant in the institute. The department is also extending its cooperation in establishing multidisciplinary courses like Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer and Processes control laboratories maintained by other departments in the institute. The department also shares in handling multidisciplinary courses like Manage Science and environmental Studies to other branches in the institute.

Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers Students Chapter (IIChE)

Activities

Under the Chemical Engineering association activities the department of Chemical Engineering organized a state level Chemical Engineering students quiz competition called: “CHEMPODIUM – 2001” In 2002 the department started IIChE students chapter to organize Debates, Seminars, Industrial visits & quiz competitions etc.

Under IIChE students chapter Chemical Engineering Department organized a National level Chemical Engineering students meet “ ichescon – 2005” in Feb 2005 involving 150 Chemical Engineering students all over the India.

Our IIChE Students Chapter has been awarded with “Ambuja’s Best Student Chapter award, 2005 - 1st prize “ for its outstanding performance during the year 2005, which carries a certificate, trophy and cash award of Rs: 15000/- by IIChE.The award was presented in National Chemical Engineering Students Congress SCHEMCON-2005, held at Guwahati, Assam on 7th December 2005.
